Who is Stephen king?

Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is a horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novelist from the United States. His books have sold over 350 million copies, and many have been adapted into films, television series, miniseries, and comic books. He is known as the “King of Horror,” a play on his surname and a reference to his celebrity in pop culture. King has written 64 novels, seven of which were published under the pen name Richard Bachman, as well as five non-fiction books. He has also written about 200 short stories, the majority of which have appeared in book collections.

On September 21, 1947, King was born in Portland, Maine. Donald Edwin King, who became a traveling vacuum salesman after returning from WWII, was born in Indiana with the surname Pollock before changing it to King as an adult. Nellie Ruth King (née Pillsbury) was King’s mother. On July 23, 1939, his parents married in Scarborough, Maine. They briefly lived with Donald’s family in Chicago before relocating to Croton-on-Hudson, New York. King’s parents returned to Maine near the end of WWII, settling in Scarborough in a modest house. King’s father abandoned the family when he was two years old. His mother raised him and his older brother David on her own, sometimes under difficult financial circumstances.

They moved from Scarborough to Stratford, Connecticut, and relied on relatives in Chicago, Croton-on-Hudson, West De Pere, Wisconsin, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Malden, Massachusetts, and Stratford, Connecticut. King’s family relocated to Durham, Maine, when he was 11 years old, where his mother cared for her parents until their deaths. She later worked as a caregiver in a nearby mentally challenged residential facility. King was raised as a Methodist but abandoned organized religion while in high school. While he is no longer religious, he says he chooses to believe in God’s existence.
