Florian David Fitz, born Florian Ingo Ulrich Fitz is a German actor, screenwriter and film director.

Florian David Fitz is from a lineage of artistic brilliance, being a second cousin to the renowned Michael and Lisa Fitz. His family tree intertwines with theirs through his grandfather Josef Fitz and Michael and Lisa’s grandfather, Hans Fitz, who were brothers.

Although raised Catholic, Fitz eventually parted ways with the church. His parents, Karlhans and Gabriele Fitz, were proud owners of a hotel in Munich, which is now managed by Fitz’s elder sister, Stefanie. Currently residing in Munich, Fitz possesses the gift of fluency in both English and Spanish, and his musical talents extend to playing the saxophone and piano.

Florian David Fitz Education

Fitz enrolled at the Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium in Munich. Upon completing his high school education, he pursued training in acting and singing at the Boston Conservatory in 1994 (now known as Boston Conservatory at Berklee).

During his time there, he was awarded a scholarship after one year and showcased his talent in various theatrical productions such as Marat/Sade, Equus, and The Winter’s Tale. In 1998, he successfully obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree upon completing his studies. Following this, Fitz spent a year in New York City, where he worked at Christie’s as a waiter, among other endeavors.

In 1999, he secured a role in The Rocky Horror Show and embarked on a tour across Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. Upon returning to Germany, he sought private acting lessons from Helga Engel (1931–2015), a renowned instructor at the Otto Falckenberg School. Although he auditioned for a position at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, his application did not progress further.

Florian David Fitz Career

Fitz made his debut on television in the autumn of 1999, appearing in an episode of the series Der Bulle von Tölz. In this episode, his mother was played by Ruth Drexel and Lisa Fitz. To avoid any confusion with another actor named Florian Fitz, who he is not related to, he decided to use “David” as his middle name.

In 2002, Fitz appeared in the 26-part ARD evening series Damn in Love. He also took on a role in the series Berlin, Berlin in 2004. From 2005 onwards, he appeared in the Sat1 series LiebesLeben. In 2007, Fitz joined the cast of the ZDF series Doctor Martin. He played a leading role in the television series Doctor’s Diary as a senior physician from 2008 to 2011.

In 2013, Fitz starred in the tragicomedy Hin und weg, directed by Christian Zübert, alongside Julia Koschitz, Jürgen Vogel, Miriam Stein, Volker Bruch, and Hannelore Elsner. He also wrote the script and directed his film The Hottest Day in 2015, in which he acted alongside Matthias Schweighöfer. In the television drama Kästner and Little Tuesday (2016), Fitz portrayed the actor Erich Kästner and was directed by Wolfgang Murnberger.

In late summer 2017, he filmed the remake of the French comedy The First Name by Alexandre de La Patellière, directed by Sönke Wortmann, alongside Iris Berben, Christoph Maria Herbst, and others. Fitz once again appeared in front of the camera with Matthias Schweighöfer in the film 100 Things (2018), for which he also served as the screenwriter and director.

In Sönke Wortmann’s film Der Surname (2022), the sequel to Der Vorname, Fitz reprised his role as Thomas Böttcher. In December of the same year, he starred in the transgender film Oskar’s Dress, directed by Hüseyin Tabak and based on a script by Fitz. He shared the screen with Senta Berger, Marie Burchard, and Burghart Klaußner.
