About Steve SarkisianĀ 

Stephen Sarkisian is a former American football player, currently holds the position of head football coach at the University of Texas at Austin. He assumed this role in January 2021. Prior to his current position, Sarkisian served as the head football coach at the University of Washington from 2009 to 2013 and later at the University of Southern California (USC) from 2014 to 2015. His coaching experience includes serving as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL) from 2017 to 2018 and at the University of Alabama from 2019 to 2020.

Steve Sarkisian Playing Career

Sarkisian attended West High School in Torrance, California, and was part of the football and baseball team. After graduating, he attended the University of Southern California (USC) as a non-scholarship middle infielder for the Trojans baseball team. However, in his junior year, he decided to transfer to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, for the 1995 season.

In his senior year, he had an impressive start to BYU’s 1996 season, throwing for 536 yards and six touchdowns, leading the Cougars to a surprising 41-37 victory over Texas A&M in the Pigskin Classic. Sarkisian began his professional career in 1997 and retired after three years. He played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1997 to 1999. In the 1999 season, he was a starting player, throwing 16 touchdown passes and 21 interceptions. Unfortunately, his team struggled with a disappointing 3-15 record, which ultimately led Sarkisian to end his playing career.

Steve Sarkisian Coaching CareerĀ 

In 2000, Sarkisian began his coaching career by returning to El Camino College as the quarterbacks coach. The following year, he joined USC as an offensive assistant under his former mentor, Norm Chow, who had been appointed as the offensive coordinator by head coach Pete Carroll. Sarkisian then became the quarterbacks coach in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, he transitioned to the professional level and became the quarterbacks coach for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.

After a winless season in 2008, Sarkisian was introduced as the head football coach for the University of Washington on December 8, 2008. His initial contract offered a salary of $1.75 million in 2009, which increased to $2.3 million by 2013. Fast forward to January 2, 2021, and Sarkisian was named the head football coach at the University of Texas at Austin. His initial contract with Texas was for six years and valued at $34.2 million.
