Hannah Saliu, a professional sex worker, was beaten to death and set on fire by three people after one of them discovered she possessed the Holy Quran in the room where she worked.
According to PUNCH, one of the suspects patronized Saliu and, after having intercourse with her, paid her N1,000 for the service before leaving her apartment.
The deceased later discovered that her N5,000 had gone missing and reportedly ran after the customer and accused him of stealing her money.
After a heated argument, the suspect is said to have invited his buddies to come over with him to Saliu’s apartment to help in searching for the missing money – but things turned sideways.
During their search, the buddies allegedly discovered a Holy Quran under her pillow. Saliu was questioned for holding the Holy Quran given the nature of her employment, and the client and his associates, who were enraged by the discovery, attacked her, beat her, and set her on fire.
“The incident happened at Alaba Rago, where a lot of Northerners reside. The girl that was killed also came from the North. Their grouse was that she was not supposed to be carrying Quran because of the kind of work she was doing,” a witness told reporters.
Meanwhile according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin who is the state Police Public Relations, “The case is at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, and the three suspects have been charged to court. The incident happened in April.”
