Death will come to everyone, but for some, it came far too soon. So, here are the Nigerian celebrities who passed away in 2022:
12. Tafa Oloyede
Adewuni Adewoye, better known as Tafa Oloyede, a veteran actor, died on February 1 at the age of 69. Oloyede, who began acting under the tutelage of Oyin Adejobi in 1974, is best known for his roles in films such as Jaiyesimi, Ayanmo, Ekuro Oloja, Orogun, and Akanji Oniposi.
Romanus Amuta
While Nollywood was still in mourning, another veteran actor, Romanus Amuta, better known as Natty in the resurrected NTA comedy series New Masquerade, died on February 9 at the age of 79 after a long illness.
10. Lari Williams
The death of veteran actor Lari Williams was announced on February 28th. Following a long illness, the actor died at the age of 81. Williams, the first president of the Nigerian Actors Guild, died at his home in Ikom, Cross River State.
9. Olúweri Màgbóòjò
Shade Akin Taylor Aberuagba, better known as Oluweri Magboojo, died on February 28th in the United Kingdom. Shade was well-known for her dramatic makeup, particularly her curvy brows. She was the star of the film Olweri Màgbój, in which she played the lead character.
8. Veronica Takor
Veronica Mngohol Takor, a promising actress, died on March 23. The actress’s body was discovered in a hotel room in Makurdi, Benue State. Veronica’s mysterious death occurred just one week after her birthday.
7. Dejo Tunfulu
Nigerians were taken aback by Dejo’s death. Many people didn’t believe the sad news, hoping it was an April Fool’s joke because he died on April 1st, especially since he was seen at an event just a few days before his death.
6. Chinedu Bernard
Chinedu Bernard, a rising actress, slumped while cleaning the Chapel of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Enugu on Friday, April 29. Rev Fr. Uchendu Chukwuma, the priest, and some parishioners rushed the actress to Enugu’s East Side Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
5. Francisca Choji
Francisca’s body was discovered on May 1 at the Rayfield Resort hotel in Jos, Plateau State. According to Gabriel Ubah, the Plateau state police spokesperson who confirmed Choji’s death, the fast-rising actress was discovered floating in the water at Rayfield Resort.
4. David Osagie
Actor David Osagie, better known as Sir David, died on May 4th after dying on set the day before. His films include My Sorrow, My Pain, Agunna, and Lost Battle.
3. Gbenga Richards
Gbenga Richards, a veteran actor, died on May 12 after battling an unknown illness. According to reports, the once vibrant actor, who was a force to be reckoned with in the 1990s and early 2000s, suffered from a number of ailments, and raising funds for his treatment became difficult because he had fallen on hard times.
2. Sola Onayiga
Sola Awojobi Onayiga, a veteran Nollywood actress, died on July 18th, and Nigerians will miss her greatly. Nigerians adored the gap-toothed actress, best known for her role as Ireti in the now-defunct family drama Fuji House of Commotion.
Osinachi Nwachuku
Osinachi is widely known for the popular gospel song Ekwueme also died not long ago after her husband allegedly abused her.
1. Ada Ameh
Da Ameh’s death shocked Nigerians because she had previously revealed that she was suffering from depression and mental issues. Hearing that she died on July 17th did not sit well with everyone because she was much loved.
