Carl De Souza Obituary: What Happened To Carl De Souza?

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Carl De Souza on February 21st, 2024. It is reported that he passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 46.

Carl De Souza Cause of Death

Carl De Souza passed away due to cancer. He was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer, specifically Stage 4.

Unfortunately, his prognosis was not optimistic, and the doctors suggested palliative treatment as the initial option.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Amanda, and their two sons, Liam, who is about to turn 15, and Owen, who is 14 years old.

Who Was Carl De Souza?

Carl De Souza was a Senior Director, Real Estate Secured Lending Transformation at CIBC. He was an alumni at St. Michael’s College School and University of Toronto. Carl was a devoted family man, according to his colleague Ravi Bhaskar. Ravi helped set up a GoFundme account for Carl, highlighting his dedication to his kids.

Carl’s life revolves around his children, from sports like hockey, baseball, and golf to family vacations at Disney.

He even went as far as putting his kids in daycare at his office building so he could be close to them while working. Carl dislikes work trips because they take him away from his family.

He makes custom eggs for his boys daily and his investments are all about providing the best for his kids, even if it means sacrificing his own retirement.

For instance, he dreams of building a twin-house with a shared basement so his kids can live close to him and his wife Amanda in the future.

GoFundme fundraiser on behalf of Carl De Souza

Ravi Bhaskar set up a GoFundMe account in 2022 to support Carl during the early stages of his cancer diagnosis. The treatment Carl is undergoing shows promise for a potential cure, but there is still concern about his loss of earnings and the limitations of healthcare coverage in Canada.

One particular challenge is that Carl needs specialized treatment in Calgary, which means he has to cover the expenses for airfare, accommodation, and living costs for himself and his caregivers for several months.

Additionally, Carl wants to ensure his children are protected against cancer if it is genetic, so he plans to undergo genetic testing. However, this testing comes with a price tag of around $5,000, which is not covered by OHIP.
