George Yamauchi, a former Medical Doctor who had been employed at Advanced Urology, sadly passed away on February 1st, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer that lasted a year.
George Yamauchi Cause of Death
George Yamauchi was born in Setagaya, Tokyo on November 22, 1949 to Mutsuko, his Japanese-American mother, and Kazumichi, his Japanese father.
In 1962, at the age of 12, George relocated to the United States alongside his older brother, Richard. Upon their arrival in Los Angeles, he commenced his English studies at Marina Junior High before continuing his education at Venice High School.
In 1972, George graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from UCLA, followed by a medical school degree in 1976. He furthered his medical training by completing his urology residency at USC in 1981. From 1984 to 2008, George found fulfillment in his role as a clinical instructor in surgery and a clinical associate professor in urology at USC, where he also dedicated his time to teaching.
After devoting over four decades to his practice at Advanced Urology, George eventually retired in 2022.
Throughout his career, he also found joy in volunteering with the Japanese American Medical Association and a team of Japanese physicians, providing long-term screenings and care for the survivors of the 1945 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
While George took immense pride in his professional accomplishments and volunteer work, his greatest happiness stemmed from tending to his expansive garden.
Adorned with beautiful flowers, bromeliads, staghorns, and unique plants, his garden was a testament to his green thumb.
He nurtured various vegetables from seeds harvested the previous year and cultivated a variety of berries, Kyoho grapes, passion fruit, and vegetables for his grandchildren to enjoy.
Even as an empty-nester, George entrusted his daughters with the care of “his babies,” the cherished plants that brought vibrancy and life to his home.
In addition to his passion for gardening, George cherished moments spent fishing with friends at Panguitch Lake, Utah, and shared laughter over poker games and annual gatherings with lifelong friends.
His love for storytelling, jokes, and the companionship of loved ones enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

George was adored by his family, friends, and the medical community. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, kindness, and a flourishing green sanctuary that will forever thrive in the hearts of his loved ones.
His memory will be treasured for his unwavering passion for gardening and his remarkable ability to nurture beauty and happiness in every aspect of his life.
Surviving him is his beloved wife of 53 years, Janice Christine Yamauchi. He is also survived by his daughters Ann (Ken Yu) Yamauchi, Caren (Karl Smith) Yamauchi, and Sharon (Makoto Ogawa) Yamauchi; grandchildren Maggie and Michael Yu, and Sophie, Luke, and George Ogawa; as well as his siblings Richard (Concetta) Yamauchi, Jon Sasaki, Tamako (Manabu) Abe, and Sumiko Hayashi of Japan.
George Joji Yamauchi Funeral Services
The funeral ceremony for the deceased Dr. George Joji Yamauchi, aged 74, is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th. The venue for the ceremony will be the Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple located at 815 E. First St. in Los Angeles.
