What happened to Mario Waters? Sex trafficking convict Mario Water reportedly killed in a fight at an Indiana prison

Mario Waters, a 35-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor, has died following an apparent altercation with another inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Waters was found unresponsive around 12:20 a.m. on Monday and, despite immediate efforts to save his life, was later pronounced dead at a Terre Haute hospital.

The incident has prompted an investigation, and the FBI has been notified about Waters’ death. Questions about the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the safety protocols within the prison are likely to be examined thoroughly.

The incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday night, resulted in no injuries to any other individuals, according to the bureau. They also informed the FBI about the death, although an immediate response from an FBI spokesperson was not received on Monday as it was a holiday.

Based on court records, Waters had been transferred to the facility in April of last year after being sentenced to life in prison by a federal jury in Arkansas for conspiracy to sexually traffic a child.

This recent death marks the second one to occur in the prison in the span of two months.

The first death took place on December 1st in the “Special Confinement Unit,” also known as federal death row.

Nasih Ra’id, whose legal name was Odell Corley, had expressed his intention to take his own life weeks prior to the incident, according to his loved ones.

They claimed that he was attempting to escape what he perceived as deteriorating conditions at the prison.

While Ra’id’s death could potentially be the first suicide on federal death row since its establishment in 1999, U.S. officials have not disclosed the cause of his death or whether an investigation is underway.

Ra’id had been sentenced to death by a federal jury in Indiana in 2004 for his involvement in a fatal bank robbery. He was the sole resident of Indiana on U.S. death row.
