American Idol singer and Grammy winner, Mandisa is currently trending after news of her passing hit her fans. News of her passing was shared by her representative on Friday. She was 47 at the time of her death.
She was found dead in her Nashville home, according to The Tennessean. Her cause of death or any further details is not shared by her family at this time.
Born Mandisa Lynn Hundley on October 2, 1976, She grew up in Citrus Heights, California. Upon completing her education at El Camino Fundamental High School, she pursued her studies in Vocal Jazz at American River College in Sacramento.
Subsequently, she furthered her education at Fisk University in Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Music degree with a focus on vocal performance.
Mandisa started her professional journey by participating in the fifth season of American Idol. In 2005, she auditioned for a popular talent show in Chicago, introducing herself as “just Mandisa”. Throughout the competition, she was known simply as Mandisa and ultimately placed ninth.
She holds the distinction of being the fifth American Idol contestant to win a Grammy Award. Her album Overcomer earned her the prestigious award in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category.
Following her appearance on American Idol in 2006, Mandisa dedicated herself to improving her health and losing weight. The inspiration behind her second album, Freedom, stemmed from her triumph over a food addiction.
By March 2009, she had shed 75 pounds and aimed to reach a total weight loss of 100 pounds or more. By February 2011, she successfully achieved her goal of losing 100 pounds.
However, in 2014, Mandisa faced a setback after losing a dear friend to breast cancer.
This tragic event caused her to regain much of the weight she had previously lost, leading to feelings of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Feeling abandoned by God, Mandisa decided to step away from the spotlight.
