“We have to take Asamoah Gyan to the world cup if we want to stand a chance”- Kennedy Agyapong
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lobbied for former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan to be included in the 2022 World Cup squad.
He believes that, despite the striker’s lack of sharpness, his involvement in the team can assist the Black Stars to advance further in the World Cup.
In an interview with Happy FM in Accra, the outspoken politician stated that Ghana will benefit from Gyan’s experience at the World Cup.
“He is an old man, he is an old man… but he can motivate the team”, he said.
“His presence alone will make a difference, so when they are going and they send old players along to motivate them, it can be a gamechanger.”
“So the role of old players like Asamoah Gyan cannot be discounted, they must be sent to boost the morale of the young ones. But form what I saw from the games against Nigeria, we can go far,” he added.
After a one-all draw in Abuja, the Black Stars upset Nigeria over two legs late last month to qualify for the World Cup ahead of the Super Eagles.
They have been drawn in Group H, where they will face Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
