The judge in charge of the Kasoa ritual murder case resigns.
His lordship Samuel Adjei, the judge in charge of the case involving two juveniles accused of killing an 11-year-old boy in Kasoa, has resigned.
On Wednesday, June 2, TV3’s Komla Adom reported that a new judge has been assigned to the court and is scheduled to take up the case and others at the Ofaakor District Court.
The case was deferred for the second time in two weeks on Wednesday.
Sources told Adom that the second adjournment was due to His lordship Adjei’s resignation.
On May 4, 2021, the court ordered prosecution to give a duplicate copy of the docket to the Attorney General’s office for consultation.
On the same day, the court ordered police investigators to determine the true ages of the two teenagers involved in the case.
After papers from numerous schools they had attended were reconciled, police prosecutor chief inspector Ernest Agbo told the court on May 4 that the juvenile Felix Nyarko was sixteen years old.
Their investigations show that the second, Nicholas Kini, was a few months older than nineteen years, according to Chief Inspector Ernest Agbo.
The judge was unavailable on the next adjourned date, May 19, 2021, when the case was summoned.
The family of the 11-year-old who died told the press that they are “disappointed” with the trial’s “slow pace.”
“We thought there would be an expedited trial so the family could get justice and closure,” said spokesperson Samed Akalilu. That, however, is not the case. We are also disappointed.”
