Taadi: SHS boy who was accused of mὺrder after ordering Bolt for friends finally freed
The first accused person in the ongoing case involving three senior high school (SHS) students accused of burning to death a Bolt driver in Sekondi Takoradi in the Western Region has been discharged by the Sekondi Magistrate Court presided over by Her Worship Rosemary Edith Hayford.
Adolf Eshun was released after the Attorney General’s Department made a recommendation.
Adolf Eshun, a student at Takoradi’s Bompeh SHS, has been held on remand since December on a charge of conspiracy to murder a Bolt driver, later identified as naval officer AB1 Okyere Boateng.
However, in its advice to the court, the Attorney General’s office stated that while Adolf Eshun ordered a Bolt for suspects Patrick Baidoo, 19, and Joseph Lord Ni Adjei Oninku, 17, who had told him they were stranded on December 22, 2021, he was not involved in the planning or execution of the crime.
According to Joseph Evans Abeka, the lawyer for the first accused, what the court said was consistent with their long-held belief that Adolf Eshun was innocent.
“…as a result, the Attorney General correctly advised that he not be prosecuted.” He should have been discharged, so he was. If the police need him to come and testify in the future, he will, but for now, he is free and can even start school tomorrow.”
“What has happened is God’s doing,” said the mother of freed Adolf Eshun, unable to hold back her tears. I’m also grateful that my son did not participate in the crime, and I hope he has learned all of his lessons.”
The second and third accused are still on remand, awaiting the Attorney General’s Department’s Bill of Indictment in order for the committal process to begin.
The hearing has been rescheduled for Monday, April 11, 2022.
