SAD: Aboboya rider dies after throwing himself into a river over hardship
Suleman, a 40-year-old tricycle rider and junk merchant, committed suicide by hurling himself into a river in Mankessim, a town in the Central Region, due to the insurmountable challenges he encountered.
Suleman, according to Kasapa News, had been vocal about his troubles and had previously attempted suicide.
Witnesses recalled a heartbreaking scenario on September 5, 2023, when they saw Suleman disrobing at the riverside before falling into the flooded river.
Some witnesses assumed he wanted to swim and expected him to resurface, but that was not the case.
Rescue efforts were quickly begun, with local divers searching the river for hours.
They were unable to locate him despite their best efforts. In a desperate attempt to seek supernatural assistance, the community’s Chiefs and Elders poured libations to satisfy the gods in the hopes of extracting Suleman from the river, but their prayers went unanswered.
The heartbreaking search continued overnight, until on the morning of September 6, 2023, Suleman’s lifeless body washed ashore.
This tragic tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the difficulties that people encounter in challenging circumstances, as well as the need for mental health awareness and support in communities.
