Nigerian lawyer and preacher Reno Omokri has taken to social media and has aired his view on how bride price must be made paid.
He says the payment must be done but it must only be paid when the lady involved is a virgin.
In a post he shared on Twitter, he supported his view with Biblical references, with the quotation Exodus 22:16-17 before adding that per traditions and customs, that is the way it must be done.
According to Reno Omokri, women who are not a virgin before getting married do not deserve to have their bride price paid.
“What I am going to say will shock people. Scripturally, Bride Price is ONLY paid for virgins. Don’t argue with me. Argue with God. See Exodus 22:16 -17. By virtue of Scripture (and also in traditional African society), you pay no Bride Price for non virgins,” Reno Omokri wrote.
What does Exodus 22:16 -17 says;
16 “If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. 17 If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the bride-price of virgins.
