Meet ‘OSAMA The Crocodile’, The Beast That killed Over 80 People In A Ugandan Village

Before 2005, fear gripped the residents of the Luganga village in Uganda due to the presence of a man-eating crocodile that was terrorizing the shores of Lake Victoria.
Crocodile in Uganda had over 80 victims

‘Osama the crocodile’, as it was named Measured 16ft from snout to tail, and weighed approximately a ton. It allegedly devoured humans especially fishermen who hunted in the lake.

The Croc was captured off the shores of the biggest lakes in Africa after worried locals demanded wildlife officials hunt it down. They trapped it using a large chunk of meat on a hook and trapped it in a corner before binding it up with rope.

Osama is reported to have feasted on over 80 victims in the Village; leaving only 15 alive to tell their story. And due to its rampant attacks which residents compared to that of Osama Bin Laden, it was given his name.

Its last victim before it was captured was a father-of-two, Bosco Nyansi, a local fisherman whose tattered clothing was discovered floating on the water. No other trace of Mr. Nyansi has been found and friends strongly believed he was mauled by the beast.

As of the time it was captured, it was believed ‘Osama the crocodile’ had lived for over 75 years and was the second largest crocodile in the world after a 21ft saltwater crocodile captured in the Philippines with a weight difference of 47kg.

Uganda is famous for its man-eating reptiles. In the 1970s, dictator Idi Amin, reportedly threw 4,000 disabled people into the crocodile-infested headwaters of the Nile of which Osama is believed to have been a benefactor.
