My father was k!lled in front of us by gunmen – Teni recalls

Teniola Apata, also known as Teni, has disclosed that her father, Simeon Apata, a retired Nigerian army Brigadier-General, was assassinated in her and her family’s presence.

On January 8, 1995, gunmen assassinated Brig. Gen. Apata (rtd.) in Lagos.

Teni stated that she was just two years old at the time of the occurrence in their living room.

She admitted that the trauma of the experience had a negative impact on her life.

The Uyo Meyo singer made the comments while a guest on the most recent episode of the Taymesan (actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh)-hosted Tea With Tay podcast.

“My father was a disciplinarian,” she explained. He was a soldier who also ran Apata Memorial High School. He was also a generous philanthropist.

“Growing up with my father dying at such a young age affected me, as did the trauma of losing my father at such a young age.” You know, his being assassinated in front of all of us and everything. I was two years old at the time.

“His death deprived me as a child of having a father figure.” Growing up, it caused me to have trust issues. Because they [gunmen] came into our house with the intent of killing him.”
