Meet The ABSA Bank Staff Who Stole GHS1.4Million From Customer’s Accounts To Run To Dubai With His Girlfriend

A 25-year-old man named Emmanuel Sakyi Afriyie, who worked at Absa Bank’s Osu branch, is facing charges of stealing GH1,209,304.69 from at least seven customers over the course of two months. He is accused of committing the crime with six other people.

Afriyie allegedly stole money from the accounts of former High Court judge Justice Anthony Kofi Adada and the late Ernest Ako, who served as the Inspector General of Police from 1974 to 1978.

According to state prosecutors, Afriyie’s job description included helping clients with loan processing, T-bill processing, and debit card processing. He is facing 13 charges, including forgery of documents and falsification of accounts.

Five of Afriyie’s accomplices have also been arraigned in court on various charges, including stealing and conspiracy. They have been identified as Richard Aikins, Michael Tweneboah, Oppong Fouad Mohammed, and Caleb Bandoh.

Several other people connected to the fraud are currently on the run. They are Clinton Asamoah, Kwame Owusu Buadu, Nicholas Nii Sai, Nana Kwesi Gyimah, Benjamin Adoari, Daniel Osei Boadu, Nana Yaw Adjei, Joseph D Anim, Ernest Aryee, Isaac De-Heer, and Othniel Amankwah Darkwa.
