On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, a significant moment occurred when Miss Yvonne Osei Adobea was elected as the first-ever female SRC President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This event marked a historic milestone in the university’s history.
Yvonne emerged victorious after a tough competition against five other candidates, securing an impressive 8,282 votes. Her main contender, Abraham Rockson, managed to gather 4,568 votes.
This victory marked a significant milestone for Yvonne, who had previously failed to win the SRC election last year. Yvonne, a third-year Sociology student, hails from Serwaa Nyarko Girls SHS in the Ashanti Region.
She proudly represents the first female from a single-sex school to become the SRC President. Prior to her election, Yvonne had been an active student activist, passionately advocating against the abolishment of the University’s Junior Common Room system.
Her dedication to student welfare and her ability to navigate challenging situations have undoubtedly contributed to her success.
