A beautiful Ghanaian nurse by name Enam Honya Heikeens suffering from Vitiligo has set social media ablaze after displaying her beauty and ultra self-confidence in a series of shots.
Enam Honya Heikeens was born as a normal kid without any medical condition until the age of 7, where she started to show symptoms of Vitiligo.
She is one of many who have been faced with social stigma based on a health condition that is not contagious and has been able to survive many throughout these many years.
“People are always asking questions about my skin. They always stare at me and there have been instances when community folks don’t want to board the same bus with you or have their kids befriend you because they think the condition is contagious” said Enam Honya
She seeks to help others being faced with such health conditions which have caused the society to part ways with them by establishing the Vitiligo Ghana Foundation.
Enam attended the Keta Nursery and Midwifery Training College for her training and currently works as a nurse.
What is vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a long-term skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment. The patches of skin affected become white and usually have sharp margins. The hair from the skin and sometimes the inside of the mouth and nose may also become white. This condition is not contagious (does not transfer from person to person).
