Victor Sungababwa, an enraged man, has terminated his 8-year marriage in a violent and terrible scenario after hacking his estranged wife to death with an axe in Zambia.
According to Rae Hamoonga, a police spokeswoman who confirmed the event in a statement released on Monday, August 28, 2023, the victim, Atrina Munsaka, 33, died instantaneously after being axed on the head while presenting the suspect with a divorce summons.
The defendant, 43, attempted suicide by swallowing a toxic chemical immediately after hacking her to death.
He was brought to the hospital and is still being treated under police guard.
According to Hamoonga, the accident occurred between 05:00 and 06:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 27, at Mayobo’s Siakaceka village in Choma district’s chief Macha.

He claimed that Esen Kanimba, a member of the community crime prevention unit (CCPU), received a phone call stating that Victor Sungababwa, 43, of Siakacheka Village Chief Macha in Choma, had axed Atrina, a housewife of Siamalele village under chief Siachitema in Kalomo District, on the head.
“The deceased was the accused’s second wife.” They married in 2013, but have been having marital problems since 2015,” Mr. Hamoonga explained.
According to reports, the deceased filed for divorce in Bbilili local court, with a hearing scheduled for September 9, 2023.
“On August 26, 2023, the deceased attempted to serve the accused with a summons, but he refused.” “On August 27, 2023, around 05:00 hours, the accused summoned the reporter to go and witness the summons being served,” said a police spokesperson.
“While the deceased was serving the summons, the accused went inside the house and returned with an axe that he had hidden on his back, and the moment he reached where the deceased was, he produced it and hacked the deceased in the head, causing her to sustain a very deep cut in the head and she died instantly,”
Kanimba intervened when the suspect walked into his residence and consumed a chemical in an effort to commit suicide.
Mr. Hamoonga stated that the body had been put at Choma General Hospital Mortuary and was awaiting a postmortem.
The accused has been brought to Choma General Hospital and is under police guard, but his condition is stable, according to the spokeswoman.
