Ekpe Akpove, a 34-year-old fish farmer from Igbide in Delta State’s Isoko South Local Government Area, married two women on Saturday, August 14.
The brides’ customary ceremonies were held at their individual homes. The groom’s father’s compound hosts a wedding reception.
According to Akpove, he met his first wife, Okoro Oghenekomeno, in 2008 and his second wife, Maro, in 2010, and they have been dating since then.
“I adore them both equally, which is why I have chosen to marry them. For me, they each have three children. So I had to do the proper thing and pay their bride price so that I could legally marry them. My oldest child is 11 years old, and fortunately for me, my spouse normally has children around the same time, “he explained. Below is an excerpt from the interview:
When asked if he told both ladies he was dating them at the same time, he said:
“Yes, right at the start. When I started seeing the other woman, I kept it a secret from my first woman, since no woman would be happy to learn that her partner was having an affair. She found out eventually, and I didn’t deny it.
“I told her the truth, and by that time, I had already secured an apartment for the second wife because I was already living with my first wife and wanted to avoid any potential conflicts.”
“When my first wife found out about my affair, she couldn’t do much because she was already pregnant with my child. I only had to apologize to her and pray that she would forgive me. That’s how I got them to meet and get to know each other. “
He explained how he deals with his wife when they have disagreements:
“Women will always be women,” he said. Thankfully, they don’t fight physically, and they frequently argue, which I suppose is normal. I always sort out their conflicts as the man of the house, and I also have friends who can talk to them and listen. “
On how he intends to care for his wife, he stated:
“Until now, I have been looking after them. I will continue in the same manner as before. They’ve been with me for a long time and have never complained. This indicates that I’m doing my best; otherwise, they would have left me. “
When asked why he married two women, he said, “I married two wives, Despite the fact that Christianity does not condone polygamy, he claims;
I have a question for you: how many wives did Jacob have? He was married twice. Even Solomon, the Bible’s wisest king, had a large number of wives. I’ve never seen it written anywhere in the Bible that having more than one wife is a sin. God wants you to take care of the children and the women as long as you can. My family makes me joyful.”
