Kennedy Agyapong in trouble as lawyers of Anas to cross-examined him today
Lawyers for ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas will cross-examine Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, today to establish derogatory remarks he made against Anas.
Mr. Anas’ testimony has previously been heard by the High Court, General Jurisdiction 2, which is presided over by Eric Baah, a justice of the Court of Appeal serving as an additional High Court judge.
Following the airing of the renowned Number 12 documentary, which resulted in the suspension of former FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and scores of referees in Ghana and Africa, the MP released over one hundred (100) derogatory comments and accused Anas of crime in June 2018.
The publications in question were broadcast live on live television by the MP’s private media company, Adom Tv and Radio, and Asempa FM.
Anas, according to the MP, is a murderer, blackmailer, extortionist, nasty, and corrupt, among other things.
Anas’ lawyers have decided to drop the case. They presented two witnesses in court, documents from the Attorney General’s office regarding the outcome of a trial Mr Agyapong claimed Anas influenced to set suspected criminals free in his video dubbed “Who watches the watchman,” and all the words both in audio visual and text form published by Mr. Agyapong without any proof or evidence to back them up.
The two witnesses were also cross-examined by the MP’s lawyers. The purpose of the cross questioning was to get the witnesses’ opinions on the film “Who watches the watchman” as a justification.
Mr. Agyapong will take the stand today, Monday, June 14th, 2021, to defend his comments. In this case, he is the sole witness. He has, however, told the Court that he would call one of his “boys,” Justice Annan, to testify.
Anas is requesting that the High Court award GH25 million in aggravated damages for defamatory materials disseminated by the MP.
