Akwasi Boadu, a popular director in the Kumawood movie industry, has denied ever plotting the downfall of Agya Koo, another famous actor in the industry.
In an interview with Ambassador TV Gh, he explained why some producers may have wanted to bring Agya Koo down.
According to Akwasi Boadu, Agya Koo became so powerful in the industry that some producers felt threatened.
Agya Koo was in high demand and movie marketers would only sell movies that featured him. This made it difficult for other actors to get work and for producers to make movies without Agya Koo.
Akwasi Boadu believes that the Kumawood movie industry should make use of other actors so that they won’t be found wanting if Agya Koo is unavailable.
As a young director, he decided to use other actors like Kwaku Manu, Kyeiwaa, Akrobeto, Rasta Nene, and Lilwin to shoot movies. This way, he could still direct movies and provide for his family even if Agya Koo was not available.
Akwasi Boadu wants to make it clear that he never initiated the downfall of Agya Koo. He believes that the move by some producers not to use Agya Koo again just to bring him down was a bad move and he will always condemn it. The Kumawood movie industry should make use of all its talented actors and not rely on just one person.
