Homeless Nigerian woman arrested in America for breaking into rich people’s homes just to sleep
Peace Ofoego, a Nigerian living in the US, was detained after breaking into people’s homes in the Hamptons, New York, to sleep.
The suspect, who has been detained three times for seeking solace in people’s rooms, backyards, and pool homes, has been dubbed “Goldilocks of the Hamptons” for her antics in Westhampton.
According to the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old Nigerian woman has been detained three times for trespassing since the end of May after breaking into no less than seven residences in the affluent neighborhood to sleep for the past several months.
In her defense, she claimed to the police that she was attempting to flee the Florida home of her violent husband in order to reclaim custody of her kids.
According to reports, Ofoego was first seen in Westhampton Beach over the Memorial Day weekend when a renter of a four-bedroom house reported to police that a “black female wearing a black trench coat and sandals” was wandering through the backyard construction site, just a mile from the village train station.
She informed the authorities that she had no identity nor credit cards when they arrived on May 29 since she had been robbed when residing in Washington, DC.
According to the Daily Mail, the police claimed that Ofoego entered an unlocked gate leading from the beach to an upscale Dune Road eight-bedroom apartment that costs $275,000 per month.
She allegedly entered the home through an unlocked back deck and lingered there until police arrived, at which point she was accused of criminal trespass.
After being charged with criminal trespassing, Ofoego was found “staying” in the pool house of a house that rents for $35,000 per month just two days later, on June 4.
Ofoego’s final run-in with the law occurred on June 24 at a residence that was advertised for rent at a staggering $280,000 in July and August.
Residents have posted on Facebook that Ofoego has been spending her days strolling through the town and along the beach.
Despite having spent the previous 13 years in the United States, she claimed to have been born in Nigeria. On July 27, she is expected back in court.
