On December 5, 2020, a female witness in the trial of Uduak Akpan, the man accused of killing job seeker Iniubong Umoren, spoke in court about how the accused allegedly lured her to his apartment with a bogus job offer and raped her.
Akpan is accused of assassinating Iniubong, a new graduate, after luring her to his home with a bogus work offer.
According to the witness, she arrived at Akpan’s home in Uruan Local Government Area at 5 p.m. and departed at 1 a.m. during the resumed trial, which was held at the same location.
“He stated that the site is a drug distribution center and that the government is aware of this. He also stated that before hiring somebody, he must do a drug test on that individual. I begged him, but he replied that if the drug got to be too much for me, he would give me some tonic water to drink in order to flush the drug out of my system. I was a little disappointed.
I was pleading with him, and he responded by saying that if I wanted to go, I had to do what he said. He told me that I needed to get up and take the medications immediately.
He took three marijuana wraps out of his pocket and placed them on the table. He lighted two cigarettes. He handed it to me and demonstrated how to inhale it as he was smoking one himself. I smoked the first one and experienced no negative consequences.
He lighted the second cigarette and escorted me around the complex, asking me whether I could still distinguish what was in front of me. I responded affirmatively.
He gave me the second one, and nothing occurred to me after that either. It was him who informed me that I needed to assist him, that he was high and needed to let go.
I began to sob and beg him for forgiveness. Then I took down my pant and he raped me,” she recalled thereafter.
According to the female witness, the accused forced her to strip down to her underwear, after which he photographed her in her nakedness.
“I was begging him to let me go, but he wouldn’t listen. He has now instructed me to completely undress. He got out his phone and began taking photographs of me while I was naked. After that, he told me to sit tight and that he would summon a motorcycle to come and pick me up,” she recalled.
She went on to say that she didn’t tell anyone what had happened because she was afraid for her life since Mr Akpan had threatened her life.
The lawsuit has been postponed until January 14th, 2022.
