“I wish I was a Ghanaian”- White woman from the Netherlands reveals

Marli Van Iwaarden, who was born in Ghana but is of Dutch descent, has claimed that she is in love with all things Ghanaian and aspires to be acknowledged as a native daughter of the land.

During an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, a stunning white woman remarked that despite the fact that she was born in the West African country and could therefore hold dual citizenship, she wished that her mother had given her Ghanaian citizenship instead.

The young lady was born in Akwatia, which is located in the Eastern Region of Ghana; but, due to the nature of the work that her mother did, she and her mother went to the Northern part of Ghana. Lamisi was the name that the people in the community gave her.

Lamisi noted that she would like to make Ghana her permanent home, but the process has been challenging for her.

“Every year, I apply for a resident permit, non-resident ID, and other things. The money aspect is also tough. I have a job in Ghana, so I take cedis, not euros. I pay about 6000 to 7000 cedis a year depending on the dollar rate,” she said.

During the course of the talk, she was asked why she does not have citizenship despite the fact that she was born in this country. Her response was as follows:

“I heard Netherlands and Ghana do not have that relationship to grant dual citizenship, so they asked my mom to choose.

In addition, Miss Iwaarden discussed some of the contrasts that she has observed between the two countries ever since she left Ghana in the year 2013.

“I prefer Ghana to Holland because Ghana is free. Everything is about appointments, but in Ghana, you just visit the person. I know the economy is bad, but it is tougher here. Many Ghanaians here are cleaners because their certificates don’t have value here due to the language difference,” she added.
