Dr. James Ries Aronson was born in Chicago and raised in suburban Highland Park, IL. He completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University in 1954, earning a degree in Chemistry.

Following this, he relocated to Massachusetts to pursue his PhD in chemistry at M.I.T., which he successfully obtained in 1958. After a year of post-doctoral work in the Spectroscopy Laboratory, he joined Arthur D. Little, Inc., where he had the pleasure of meeting his future wife, Rita.

In 1963, James and Rita settled in Winchester, where they raised their five children and actively participated in the local community. James dedicated 27 years of his career to ADL, specializing in infrared spectroscopy.

During this time, he contributed significantly to various aspects of the NASA Lunar and Planetary programs, resulting in the publication of approximately 40 papers in technical journals and books. His exceptional work as a Principal Investigator on the Lunar Program even earned him a NASA citation.

After retiring from ADL, James engaged in private consulting for a period of 3-4 years. He was an avid golfer, a voracious reader, and had a deep fascination with history, astronomy, and his own ancestry. Additionally, he enjoyed playing Bridge, indulging in Chinese luncheons with close friends, and had a great appreciation for theatre.

As a devoted fan, he closely followed the Red Sox and Patriots. While James achieved numerous remarkable feats throughout his life, he took the greatest pride in his children and grandchildren, as well as his remarkable hole-in-one in golf.

During his retirement, James found joy in teaching computer skills to senior citizens and served as the editor of the Jenk’s Senior Center newsletter, among his many other activities. James is survived by his wife, Rita, as well as his children, James T. and his wife Doriana. They have children named Victoria, James, Monica, and Richard.

Additionally, James leaves behind his daughter Audrey Savoia and her husband Joseph, along with their daughter Arianna. Kathy Carroll and her husband John, along with their children Andrew, Christopher, Sophia, Caleb, and Daniel, are also part of James’ family. Diane Butts and her husband Timothy, along with their children Danielle and Rachel, are included as well.

Christopher and his wife Karen, along with their children Nicole, Andrew, and Anthony, complete the list of James’ loved ones.
