“Doctors told me i had 5 years to live, thanks to God it has been 15 years now and i am still living”- UTV’s Abigail Ashley reveals

Abigail Ashley, a United Television (UTV) presenter, has disclosed how physicians projected her death 15 years ago as she reached the end stage of kidney disease.

On Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 with Afia Amankwah Tamakloe, the TV presenter shared her amazing story about being diagnosed with kidney disease fifteen years ago, and doctors telling her she only had five years to live.

Abigail described the events that led to her discovery that she had renal disease, as well as the stress that followed, including doctors telling her that she only had a few years left on this planet.

“It started as a mere headache and I thought it was stress from work so I will talk to doctors and they will prescribe pain killers for me to subdue the pain. But one night in 2007, I started coughing with blood in my sleep and went to tell my mum about it.

“I was rushed to a private hospital nearby only to wake up the next day with my entire body swollen. I was transferred to Korle-Bu where I was diagnosed with Stage 4 chronic disease and due to the severity, I was asked to go on dialysis but I declined,” she told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3.

Abigail revealed that she declined to undergo dialysis after witnessing the agony of other people with kidney illness who had had the procedure. After she declined dialysis, a doctor approached her and told her she only had 5 years to live because her renal illness had progressed to stage 4.

“My condition still could not get better while the swelling also got worse and a man who heard me share my struggle offered to take me to India for treatment which he fulfilled but when we got there, the doctors ordered for me to be brought back to Ghana to continue treatment because they said the condition was such that they could not do anything,” she said.

Abby stated she had a successful kidney transplant and has survived more years, which she attributes to God’s handiwork.
