Coolio recorded his first single in 1987, titled “Whatcha Gonna Do?”. Coolio got a record deal with Tommy Boy Records and put out his first solo album, It Takes a Thief.
At the 1996 Grammy Awards, Coolio received the award for Best Rap Solo Performance for his song “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which he had originally released in 1995 for the film Dangerous Minds and which quickly became one of the most successful rap songs of all time.
While in 2008 he hosted the web series “Cookin’ with Coolio,” in January 2012 he competed on the Food Network’s “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off,” and finished in second place.
