Comfort Konadu: Cleaner Arrested In Manchester For Spending £31K Out Of £90K that mistakenly landed in her Account
A Ghanaian who works as a cleaner in Manchester – Comfort Konadu – has been sentenced to jail after spending money which was mistakenly sent into her account by a charity company.
reports indicate that Comfort Konadu, had returned a £9 item to a charity shop for a refund but it is believed staff added five noughts while entering the electronic credit note into the till.
Once she realized the error, Konadu transferred £57,000 into other accounts including those of her family, and also squandered £31,0000 in a day.
Officials of the Royal Mencap Society were able to track her down but only managed to retrieve two-thirds of the missing money. Meanwhile, Two workers at the charity were suspended and subsequently dismissed over the mistake.
At Manchester Crown Court Konadu, who has six children and 12 grandchildren, admitted theft and was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years.
