A country is very poor If politicians don’t have million dollars – George Quaye
Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has resigned from her position amidst calls for her resignation.
The reason for her resignation stems from questions surrounding her alleged possession of a million dollars. This large sum of money has raised eyebrows, but George Quaye, an event organizer and actor, believes that it is not uncommon for politicians to have such amounts as they often engage in other business ventures.
He argues that if politicians do not have a million dollars, it reflects poorly on the country’s economic status. However, Quaye also emphasizes that it is not appropriate for a public officer to keep such a large amount of money at home, as it implies a lack of confidence in the banking system.
He acknowledges the legitimacy of questioning the source of the money, as public officers work for the people and should be accountable. Quaye further asserts that Ghanaian politicians often have side businesses to supplement their income due to the heavy reliance placed on them by the public.
Overall, he believes that Ghanaians need to be more honest and realistic in their expectations of politicians. In light of the controversy surrounding her, Dapaah has chosen to step down from her role to avoid burdening the government with her personal issues.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted her resignation.
