Jabbawockeez Dance Group
As the champion of America’s Best Dance Crew’s inaugural season in 2008, the American hip-hop dance group The Jabbawockeez gained notoriety. Dancers Kevin “KB” Brewer and Joe Larot formed a creative dance crew in San Diego, California, in 2003.
Jabbawockeez Members 2022 Names And Age
Dance group JabbaWockeeZ was established in 2003. During performances, the dancers are renowned for donning white ski masks and gloves. They adopted the white ski masks and gloves as a nod to the renowned San Francisco strutting group Medea Sirkas.
The dance group now has about 20 members after expanding over the years. Eight of them are regarded as the core group. There is now a single female teammate, as opposed to before when there were only male members.
The group’s original name was 3 Muskee. The group’s members were Joe “Punkee” Larot, Phil “Swagger Boy,” and Kevin “KB” Brewer. Lewis Carroll’s poem Jabberwocky served as the source of inspiration for Larot’s creation of the name JabbaWockeeZ.
Later, the trio made the decision to grow their group. The new lineup included Chris “Cristyle,” Gary “Gee,” Randy “DJ Wish One,” Jeff “Phi,” Phil “Swagger Boy,” Kevin “KB,” Joe “Punkee,” Rynan Paguio, and Phi Nguyen.
Sadly, meningitis claimed the life of Gary “Gee” Kendall, a member of the group. Randy “DJ Wish One” Bernal and Chris “Cristyle” Gatdula also left the group to pursue personal goals. How many JabbaWockeeZ are still around today? There are now only five original members left after the passing of Gee and the departure of two more.
Jabbawockeez Ethnicity
The majority Asian American group known as the Jabbawockeez has always been diverse. (Of the current crew, 13 are Asian Americans, 4 are Black Americans, 2 are Hispanic, and 1 is Caucasian.) They see racial diversity as integral to their artistic vision and brand but not as its focal point.
Jabbawockeez Awards
Awards. The Jabbawockeez’s first noteworthy accomplishment came in 2008 when they took first place in America’s Best Dance Crew’s inaugural season. The Jabbawockeez were chosen as the Favorite Reality TV Star at the 2008 AXA (Asian Excellence Awards), where they also shared the stage with Kaba Modern.
Jabbawockeez Career
The dancers took the stage with ski masks and gloves on. The mask and glove design was chosen as an homage to the San Francisco strutting group Medea Sirkas from the 1970s. The San Francisco Bay Area-based MindTricks dance crew included Gary “Gee One” Kendall and Randy “DJ Wish One” Bernal. According to Jeff “Phi” Nguyen, “Our crew doesn’t have a lead dancer. Our guiding principle is that you must watch us as a whole when you attend one of our performances.It doesn’t matter who we are or where we came from when we put on [the masks]. All of us are one. The fantastical creature from Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem “Jabberwocky” served as the inspiration for Joe Larot’s creation of the name Jabbawockeez. [1] The group eventually switched to their recognizable white masks and gloves because they better complemented their persona and image. Through Gary’s connections, the Jabbawockeez in San Diego gained the services of b-boys Chris “Cristyle” Gatdula and Rynan “Kid Rainen” Paguio. The Jabbawockeez’s first eight members started performing together in 2004. Gary, Randy, Phi, Phil, Kevin, Joe, Rynan, and Chris made up this lineup.
