Young man sent to jail for dating and camping a 16 years old JHS student shares his story
When Emmanuel Amponsah, a student, began crying and begging forgiveness from his girlfriend, Sekina, it was a heartbreaking scene at Kumasi Central Prison.
Emmanuel Amponsah, a twenty-two-year-old man from Effiduase in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, had been seeing Sekina, a sixteen-year-old girl, for around eight months.
Amponsah had previously had a broken relationship before meeting Sekina. They were having a peaceful time together, enjoying their new relationship.
Sekina saw her student lover on numerous occasions, and the two were going to have a nice time together. Sekina also used to assist Emmanuel with housework.
They were having a good time until Sekina’s parents discovered their daughter in Emmanuel’s room without permission.
They began pushing accusations after accusing him of defiling their daughter. Emmanuel was detained when the police were called.
He was accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor. Emmanuel first pled not guilty to the defilement allegation, claiming that Sekina was already in a relationship with someone else when he entered the picture.
