“We provided $430 million to Ghana to combat COVID and $130 million to purchase vaccines” – The World Bank exposes government.
According to World Bank Country Director Pierre Frank Laporte, the World Bank has committed $430 million to the government of Ghana to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
The funds were initially allotted to several programs targeted at informing and teaching Ghanaians about the Covid-19 and its safety precautions, he claims.
Mr Laporte stated on JoyNews’ PM Express on Thursday:
“We’ve given Ghana $430 million to battle Covid.” And this encompasses a variety of actions, including, at first, a communication effort, a sensitization campaign, the equipping of labs, the equipment of new facilities to receive patients and treat patients.’
He further claimed that the World Bank contributed an additional $130 million for the acquisition of vaccines.
While aggressively supporting Ghana’s Covid-19 struggle, the World Bank also put various measures in motion to help the country’s economy stay afloat.
According to Pierre Frank Laporte, these projects are focused at Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which are the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
He noted that the Bank has accelerated project distribution, such as the Ghana Economic Transformation programs, which are directed primarily at SMEs.
