“We can transform Ghana’s economy using the national cathedral” – Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has justified the construction of the National Cathedral, claiming that it will improve Ghana’s economic fortunes.

According to him, the National Cathedral would not only serve as a tourist and religious destination, bringing in revenue for the country, but it will also transform the spirituality of the people.

Ofori-Atta disclosed on GTV that the National Cathedral gets only a little portion of the government’s annual money.

“Government has spent about GH¢ 30 billion in terms of our expenditure, I think this year, we’ve spent at least GH¢ 25 million on the National Cathedral, which is one-thousandth [of the budget].”

Following revelations that the government wasted around GH 200 million of taxpayers’ money on the National Cathedral project, the administration has been scold in the last week.

As Finance Minister, Mr Ofori-Atta indicated that the Akufo-Addo administration is committed to building “a virtuous state in which the Lord promised,” rather than just the economic benefits of the project.
