A viral video shows a woman being publicly humiliated by some villagers in Anambra state’s Aguleri community.
The woman in the video who attempted to cover her modesty was accused of murdering her husband by sleeping with another man.
In the crowd, a man was heard saying, “O lagburu di ya,” which translates as “she caused her husband’s death by committing adultery.” The man also stated that the woman should be kept for all to see.
The Anambra state police command confirmed the incident, saying the woman was rescued from a mob in the state’s Aguleri community on Saturday, March 12.
According to the police, a main suspect in the inhumane treatment has been apprehended. Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, stated:
“Anambra State Police operatives rescued a female victim from an angry mob in Aguleri today, 12/3/2022.”
“The rescue was prompted by a report from a trending video in which a lady was publicly molested and assaulted for allegedly causing the death of her late husband.”
“While describing the act as barbaric, the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, states that one suspect is already in custody and has ordered an immediate study of the video in order to identify the suspects, arrest them, and bring them to justice.”
Additional information reveals that the deceased had already been buried before the video went viral.
The victim was rescued and is currently being treated in a hospital.
