The late Rev Anthony Kwadwo Boakye’s funeral proceeded as planned on Saturday, August 5, 2023, despite a court injunction. Disputes within the family of the founder of Resurrection Power New Generation Church have been ongoing since his passing a month ago due to undisclosed internal issues. In an attempt to gain control over her late husband’s body and halt the funeral indefinitely, Mrs. Margret Boakye, also known as Obaa Yaa Asantewaa, sought and obtained the injunction.
However, on the day of the funeral, Mrs. Boakye was noticeably absent from the ceremony, where she should have overseen the interment as the widow. In her first public statement since the controversy began, she expressed her bitterness over the events that have unfolded, starting from Rev. Boakye’s illness, his death, and the lead-up to the funeral. Mrs. Boakye decried the accusations leveled against her, including insinuations of her involvement in her husband’s demise, as well as her exclusion from the funeral proceedings.
Using biblical references, Mrs. Boakye invoked curses upon all those who have tarnished her name and caused her distress. Her emotional address shed light on the deep divisions within the family and the unresolved grievances that have marred the final farewell to Rev. Boakye. The funeral, though held amidst legal obstacles and family discord, offered a solemn moment for mourners to pay their respects to the late preacher.
