Two people arrested for attempting to sell 16-year-old boy for GH¢800,000
Two people have been arrested in Akim Oda in connection with attempted kidnapping and the selling of a teenager.
Kwaku Asare, 24, and his pal Kwame Asante, 28, are the accused.
According to Citi News, the event was brought to the police’s notice by Kofi Appiah, Chairman of the Unit Committee for the Akyem Etwereso Electoral Area.
He is said to have informed police of the suspects’ intention to sell suspect Kwaku Asare’s nephew, 16-year-old Festus Amoako of Ashaiman.
According to reports, the Assemblyman pretended to be an agency interested in purchasing the victim for GH800,000.
Suspect Kwaku Asare enticed the victim to Oda by promising him a good job. While the defendants were waiting for the victim to arrive at the Oda bus terminal, police arrested and detained them.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police PRO, told Citi News that the two suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and will be charged once the inquiry is completed.
“On 7th December, one Kofi Appiah, a unit committee chairman reported to the police about a plan by suspects Kwaku Asare, 24, and his friend Kwame Asante, 28, to sell Kwaku Asare’s nephew, Festus Amoako, 16 years,” he said. “the two approached him through one person that they wanted to sell Festus Amoako. He feigned interest and in the process, they bargained for an amount of GH¢800,000.“
“While the suspects were at the Oda lorry park waiting for the victim to arrive, the police swoop in on them and arrested them. They are currently in police custody assisting in investigations. When that investigation is concluded, the two suspects are going to be arraigned.”
