Three people including a retired midwife, have been arrested for stealing babies.
The National Investigative Bureau (NIB) is reported to have apprehended a retired midwife and three other people for baby-snatching and selling.
The incident in Atuabo and Half Assin in the Western Region is reported to have resulted in their being processed to court and remanded into the custody of the NIB.
Cynthia Beyeden, a 63-year-old retired midwife/nurse, Sylvester Quashie Nyamekeh, a mason, Ediemu Bozoma, a 55-year-old trader, Cynthia Quashie, private security, and one Mr. Quashie are the four suspects, according to reports.
Chief Inspector Simon Apiosornu, the case’s chief prosecutor, was claimed to have urged the court to keep them in detention while further investigations were conducted.
According to reports, the NIB learned about the unlawful activities of the people after Sylvester Quarshie Nyamekeh was apprehended while attempting to sell a seven-month newborn boy for GH80,000.00 at Atuabo.
He was alleged to have implicated the retired midwife as his source of the children, which led to her arrest, as well as the two others, one of whom is currently on the run.
