“There is no sense in proclaiming Castro dead, he will return when the time is right”- Kofi Kinaata
Kofi Kinaata, a musician, has questioned the logic of proclaiming Castro dead when his family and those close to him had sensed his absence for years.
Castro and his female acquaintance Janet Bandu went missing after a jet ski excursion in Ada seven years ago yesterday, on July 6, 2021.
According to the country’s constitution, a person can only be formally proclaimed dead if no one has heard from them for seven years.
Before the formal announcement, Kofi Kinaata believed that whether he was certified dead or not would have no impact on his family’s and his own experiences since his absence.
The act of pronouncing him dead, he claims, does not preclude him from returning when he believes it is appropriate for him to return from wherever he is.
He said: “Personally, his absence is costing me a lot and his being declared dead will not change anything for the family, friends, and loved ones since we still don’t see him around”.
“Again, we don’t feel his presence or contribution in our lives, which is a great loss so what is the point in declaring him dead? The declaration will not change how we feel about his absence and the many tears that are being shed for what befell him since we are already in pain. Declaring him dead will not kill him or prevent him from coming back home when he feels like doing that if he is not dead,” Kinaata added.
