“There Can Be No Asantehene, Without The Golden Stool, ” – Otumfuo Akomforehene
The Otumfuo Akomforehene, Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, has stated that “without the Golden Stool, there can be no Asantehene.”
According to him, the Golden Stool is the most revered physical representation of the Asante Nation, and it is the Golden Stool that determines who becomes Asantehene.
“The Golden Stool is Asante’s most treasured physical emblem,” he explained during his keynote lecture at the Asante Professionals Club’s 6th Opemsuo Lectures which took place today, December 11, 2021, at the Golden Tulip Kumasi City.
Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, however, praised the fact that “For a kingdom to have existed for the past 5 centuries is, without doubt, a magnificent kingdom”.
The 6th Opemsuo lecture was titled “Is Asanteman’s Golden Stool Still Effective in Today’s Governance Environment?” Assessing the Ashanti Nation’s Origins and the Genealogical Structure of the King and Queen Mothers.
Among the dignitaries present were Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI, who represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, Otumfuo Akomforehene, who also served as the event’s Keynote Speaker, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Akwasi Sarpong, and Prof. Dr. Benjamin Baffoe-Bonnie,
