The Chief Of Mempeasem Finally Apologizes to The President For Not Observing The National Anthem

The Chief of Mempeasem, Nii Torgbor Obodai Ampaw VI, recently apologized to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not standing during the National Anthem at the Green Ghana ceremony held at the University of Ghana on June 9, 2023.

The Chief explained that he was unable to stand due to his ill health, but he eventually stood up when prompted by the President through the Regional Minister.

The Chief apologized to the President and the people of Ghana for not being able to stand during the National Anthem.

He explained that he is a law-abiding citizen and as a chief, it is his duty to uphold the sovereignty of the nation as enshrined in the National Anthem. He also asked Ghanaians to be understanding of his situation and to show restraint towards the President’s actions.

After the incident, some people criticized both the Chief and the President for their actions at the ceremony. President Akufo-Addo was seen as upset that the Chief did not stand up during the National Anthem and instructed the Greater Accra Regional Minister to order him to observe the convention.
