sad news: Police Constable crushed to death by speeding car while on duty in eastern region
A police officer in the Eastern Region has been killed while on duty at the Akwadum barrier on the Koforidua-Suhum route.
On Friday, December 10, 2021, General Constable Chris Quarshie died in an ambulance while they rushed him to Accra’s 37 Military Hospital after he was knocked down by an overspeeding vehicle while on duty.
A day prior, the suspect, John Adu Agyei, 53, was reportedly speeding between Koforidua and Suhum in an unregistered Toyota Tundra with the DV number 3518c-21.
He allegedly smashed through a barrier and knocked down the officer upon his arrival at the Akwadum Police Check Point.
The victim sustained injuries and was sent to Koforidua’s St. Joseph Hospital for treatment but was later transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra the same day, about 7 a.m., for additional treatment.
According to the Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Regional Police Command, the suspect driver is in police custody as investigations are still being carried out.
