pregnant woman d!es because her husband couldn’t pay Ghc 600 for ambulance fuel to transport her to Korle Bu.

Augustina Awortwe, 31, died in an ambulance following a cesarean at the Holy Child Catholic Hospital in Fijai.

Her husband was unable to fuel the ambulance to take her to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

According to Starr News, the deceased’s husband, John Obiri-Yeboah, stated that his wife went to the hospital on January 3 intending to give birth on January 4, 2022.

He stated he left his wife at the hospital and went to his residence in Shama Junction.

Mr. Obiri-Yeboah says he was at Shama Junction when his sister called to say his wife’s condition had deteriorated and they were prepared to transport her to Korle-Bu.

Upon reaching Assorkor Essaman, he stated, “they requested for 600 cedis to buy fuel, and I informed them I didn’t have such an amount on me.”

He advised the ambulance team to pay for the vehicle’s refueling and then add the amount to the medical charge. Although he subsequently managed to give them 50 cedis for petrol.

Instead of going to Korle-Bu, they returned to Fijai’s hospital. On their way back to Fijai, the medical team couldn’t understand why the ambulance had returned, causing a quarrel between them, although subsequently, the hospital paid for the fuel.

This, he said, added another 30 minutes to their drive to Accra’s Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Upon reaching Elmina in the Central Region, the team informed him that his wife’s condition had deteriorated to the point that emergency medical attention was required.

Upon arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, an ambulance team member informed him that his wife had died.

He consequently blames the ambulance team’s delay for his wife’s death and is prepared to sue.

The Patients’ Charter prohibits the hospital from disclosing any information regarding the event to Empire News. The request must be made to the police.

In spite of this, the Ghana Ambulance Service Regional Administrator denies that the delay was caused by a demand for money to refuel the ambulance.

Frank Bafo Manu told Empire News over the phone that when the Holy.
