On Friday night, a massive earthquake shook Morocco, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,000 people.
The earthquake that struck Morocco’s High Atlas mountain killed dozens of people, caused extensive damage, and forced residents to leave their homes.
At around 11:11 in the evening, the United States Geological Survey reported that a preliminary magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Ighil district of the High Atlas.
It has been reported that more than 300 people have been hurt, and the hospitals in Marrakesh have apparently seen a “massive influx” of injured patients.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 18 kilometers below the surface of the earth, making it a shallow earthquake. Shallow earthquakes are generally regarded as more destructive than deeper earthquakes because they carry more energy.
