Oh Ghana; Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Rolls Royce which he used to commission Akosombo Dam left to rot
Kwame Nkrumah’s vintage car, which was used to commission the Akosombo Dam, has been abandoned.
Ghana has abandoned the antique automobile that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah drove to commission the Akosombo Dam.
In January 1966, Ghana’s first President drove a Rolls Royce from Accra to Akosombo to commission the Akosombo Dam, Ghana’s largest investment in its history.
The Akosombo Dam was built to create affordable energy for Ghana and surrounding African countries’ industry and families.
When it comes to the country’s pull factor in the tourism business, the car has been left to rot at the National Museum for the past 56 years.
This is extremely unfortunate for a history that aspires to be Africa’s tourism hub.
The National Museum itself is under-marketed, therefore the typical Ghanaian, let alone a foreigner, is unaware of it.
