Nhyiraba Kojo, a Ghanaian artist and businessman, recently paid off the debts of 16 inmates at the Sekondi prisons and promised to build a proper water system for the facility.
Kojo was inspired to take these actions after spending time in the prison himself and witnessing the challenges faced by inmates.
Kojo was jailed for 30 days due to contempt of court after failing to comply with a court order. Three residents of Fijai had sued him for noise pollution caused by his nightclub, NK City Nightclub.
The court had instructed Kojo to stop the noise pollution and install soundproofing, but he could not prove that he had done so.
After his release from prison, Kojo decided to take action to help the inmates he had met during his time there. He paid off the debts of 16 inmates so that they could be freed.
He also presented the prison with some items and promised to build a proper water system for the facility. Currently, the prison relies on water from the fire service water tank supply.
Nhyiraba Kojo’s experience in the Sekondi prisons opened his eyes to the challenges faced by inmates. He decided to take action to help those he had met during his time there.
By paying off the debts of 16 inmates and promising to build a proper water system for the prison, Kojo has shown that he is committed to making a positive difference in his community.
