Many people in Ghana were taken aback when Okyeame Kwame, a well-known Ghanaian rapper and Pan-Africanist, revealed in a recent interview that he always asks his wife for permission before taking money out of their joint bank account. This revelation shocked many Ghanaians.
The multi-award winning musician admitted during an interview with the host of the television show Cookie Tee on Joy Prime that he is a spendthrift, and as a result, his wife has to keep him in check financially.
According to what the rapper has revealed, before his wife took control of their financial situation, he used to waste money on a lot of unnecessary things like buying overpriced clothing and footwear.
Therefore, his wife was left with no other viable option to effectively put him in check and to take full control of the couple’s joint bank account.
Okyeame Kwame mentioned in his response that before making any purchases that are in excess of the allotted spending limit, he consults with his wife first.
He went on to say that during the time that a liter of gasoline cost 10 Cedis, he used to get 100 Cedis a week from his wife.
It has been his wife who has been providing him with weekly chop money for the past ten years and counting; this has helped and strengthened their financial situation.
The “Rap Doctor” suggested to his fellow married men that they should model their lives after his own in order to achieve financial security and steer clear of frivolous expenditures.
