“My sisters blinded me with juju after a rich man agreed to marry me”- Old woman reveals why she got blind at a young age.

Portia Essa, a disabled woman who was blinded by her sisters, talked to DJ Nyame of SVTV about what happened to her and how her sisters hurt her.

Madam Essa said that her father died when he moved to Saakyi in search of land and work.

Madam Portia Essa said that she had older siblings but a rich man in the neighborhood agreed to marry her when she was 13.

She says her sisters talked about her after hearing that a man had promised her marriage and was telling everyone.

Madam Essa said that there are other gods in their family and that she thinks her sisters told the gods about her, which made her go blind.

Madam Portia said that she is happy with where she lives now. She also said that she lives alone, that her blindness doesn’t stop her from working, and that she has to clean, feed, and take care of everything.

Madam Essa said she has pain in her wrist and other parts of her body because of the work she does.

DJ Nyame and the SVTV Africa charity gave her bags of rice, drinks, and other valuable items to which Madam Essa was very grateful.
