Michael Agbaeje was rearrested over the weekend after he failed to appear in court for allegedly assaulting and brutalizing his wife, Roseline Victory O’Neill.
A source told SaharaReporters that the cops also picked up his brother, Paul Tony Agbaeje, who was accused of threatening Roseline’s life because she sought justice.
According to Roseline, she caught her husband cheating on their marriage bed many times but forgave him.
She explained that they married on November 24, 2018, after both testing negative for HIV in 2017, but she later discovered he had been HIV positive since 2017.
It’s not clear what she said when she confronted him. She forgave her husband and stayed married.
Roseline, who runs a food stand in Calabar’s Cultural Centre Field, said she awoke on December 27, 2020, and went about her business alone.
She said a customer came in and she recognized him as an old school friend. They hugged and chatted briefly before she went about her business.
She sold food until 11 p.m. because it was a busy day. She explained that she was too tired and sleepy to call her usual driver, but he didn’t answer.
Roseline said an old classmate tried to help her order a cab online, but she said the cost was too high, so she just set up chairs and decided to sleep at her stand that night.
Her husband yelled at her, calling her a “prostitute” and other derogatory terms, which she said was not unusual during festive seasons.
“By 11 p.m., I was exhausted and weak from not eating for days (no time to even do that). If you leave them outside, your cups and bottles will be gone the next day as fellow vendors will help you by taking them all,” Roseline said.
“I wanted to take the risk so I could get home to bathe, rest, and sleep on my own bed. I called my usual driver but he wasn’t there. It was late and all I wanted to do was sleep, which I didn’t mind doing during festive periods like Christmas.
